The coastal Cirella survived to the Carthaginian fury and rather had to flourish in imperial epoch, if we find her/it quoted in the itinerary tirrenico described by Peutingeriana (11) it Tabs her/it. According to a tradition (deprived therefore of every historical base) Cirella would have been cristianizzata from St. Pietro, coming from Reggio Calabria and direct to Rome, which would have visited her note "to convert her/it to the faith of the man-god" (12). And' certain, instead, that Cirella was Episcopalian center; this way he/she writes, in fact, Ferdinando Ughelli: "Cirella had the honors of Episcopalian city, so that Romano his/her Presule, found again him with the Fathers of the Council Lateranense, celebrated in Rome by Pope Martin I the year 649, soscrisse: ROMANUS EPISCOPUS CIRELLITANUS" (13). |
